What Happens To Your Tires When They Do Not Have Proper Air Pressure?

May 1, 2021

The Premier Auto Service Center team wants to make sure you take time to take care of your tires. It is easy to forget about your tires when you think of other systems in your vehicle, such as your braking system or your transmission system. However, your tires are one of the most critical components of your vehicle. Tires that aren’t properly maintained are partially responsible for 11,000 crashes each year.

These crashes, most likely, could have easily been prevented with basic tire care. Basic tire care starts with proper tire pressure. If your tire is overinflated, it will become stiff, rigid, and won’t have as good as traction, which in turn, could put your tire in danger when encountering potholes or other debris on the road. The excessive air pressure could also lead to an explosive flat tire.

Overinflated tires aren’t the only problem either -- underinflated tires can be an issue too. When your tires are underinflated, the tire’s life is reduced by 25%. Not only is the tire’s life reduced, but your fuel economy is diminished by 5%. Your safety and the safety of your passengers is affected too. When you drive on properly inflated tires, you have exact handling and steering. However, when you drive on tires with low tire pressure, you will experience a bumpy, uncomfortable ride.

For both a safe drive, fuel efficiency, and long tire life, proper tire pressure is necessary. The Premier Auto Service Center team encourages you to take time for your tires by stopping by the technicians at Premier Auto Service Center for tire maintenance. We can also align your wheels and rotate and balance your tires. Schedule an appointment today with the technicians at Premier Auto Service Center, or call us at 239-471-7049.
